Can a laptop Hard drive be used as an external device for another laptop?

Written by admin on April 15, 2009 – 10:05 am -

My friends hard drive recently crashed and I am wonder if there is a cable that will connect to the laptop hard drive and then to my laptop, as an external drive using USB. If so where could i get one? If so, are would all laptop hard drives use the same cable? The hard drive im trying to hook up is a Western Digital (WD1200BEVS).

Thanks!

Yes there is a cable like that...go to e-bay and buy one or get 1 from Best Buy.

Why don’t you just switch the hard drives? Laptop hard drives are all the same physical size with the same connectors.

You can find a 2 1/2″ case for the drive at most computer stores (Best Buy, CompUSA, Radioshack). It will use a USB B cable that will attach to any computer USB port. They are easy to assemble and use. The USB cable and power cord are usually included.
