How to connect a Maxtor external hard drive to a laptop?

I'd like to know how to connect a Maxtor external hard drive to a laptop. What kind of connector should I use? Thank you.

    It depends what kind of interface it uses. A lot use USB 2.0, some others use Firewire, and others use e-SATA. Every computer will have USB ports, but not all have Firewire, and a lot don't have e-SATA. Be careful to find out which yours is before purchasing the external hard drive.

    Personally, USB 2.0 works fine. Might not be as fast as e-SATA, but I can live with that, it still goes fast enough.

    it should've came with an mini usb cable or usb cable.
    the flat end goes into your usb port on your laptop and the other into your hard drive

    You need an enclosure to allow you to hook it up through USB. Some enclosures can be hooked up to a TV so you can play videos on the TV and these also come with remote controls
