I have a Seagate external hard drive- what do I need to do to set it up?

Written by admin on April 15, 2009 – 10:04 am -

I've been given a Seagate 250gb Free Agent external hard drive for Christmas and I've plugged it in and turned it on, but nothing has happened. I've been told I need to compartmentalise it but I don't know how to do it! I thought I might get a prompt once it connected to my lap top but there hasn't been.
Help!

Switch off PC, unplug Seagate, Switch on PC, once start-up has finished plug in Seagate, PC should recognise new hardware and install successfully.

What is wrong with my seagate external hard drive?

Written by admin on April 15, 2009 – 10:04 am -

I have a Seagate External Hard drive. It has been working great untill I plugged it in my computer yesterday, and the the light on the hard drive started to blink slowly. And so did the transformer power supply light (whatever it is) thing thats on the power plug. The 2 lights blinked very slowly in perfect sync. The computer does not detect the hard drive either. If anyone has had this expirence please help, or anyone who can help me with this problem.

It could be a problem with the power supply.

You should ask for(or find) a replacement power supply for it.

Be careful though, the drive might be damaged.

Refer to a specialist.

a seagate hard drive has a diff connection than western digital? How can I connect the seagate ,replace wester

Written by admin on April 15, 2009 – 10:04 am -

I have a 160gb seagate hd. I want to "add" it to my hp 553x.
My hp has a diff plug for hard drive? I thought they were all the same ..can I add this seagate?
Thanks

Hard drives can be IDE, SATA, SATA II (also known as SATA 3.0) first things first figure out what type of hard drive your WD drive is (IDE has a bigger plug, SATA and SATA II have smaller ones) - find out if your motherboard will support the new hard drive and if so buy a cable and hook it up.

How can I connect multiple hard drives to my computer?

Written by admin on April 15, 2009 – 10:04 am -

I have a camcorder, and want to connect multiple hard drives to my pc to save the different videos I take.

I want to use 'regular' hard drives. I guess I would need some kind of case to connect multiple hard drives? Is there some kind of 'stack' or some such 'thing' for this purpose?

I am thinking about connecting 10 hard drives at the same time. I want to connect them via the USB, if possible (1st choice). Or would I need to connect the 'stack' directly to the motherboard?

Would this work and is it possible, and how would I do it?
I forget to mention that I meant, all the hard drives in one case.

I know you can get USB hard drive cases.

But I want the hard drives all in the SAME case/stack.

Seems to me you're looking for something a little more sophisticated since you already know you can use external casings and connect them to a USB hub.

I'm not sure why you want to use "10 hard drives", but if your objective is to separate the video categories, you can use one huge harddisk with mulitple partitions so they can be accessed as different drives (c:\, d:\, e:\....).

If you're willing to spend a little more money for a robust solution, take a look at network access storage solutions. I won't go into the details about performance and fault tolerance here, but you can easily find such products and their features on the internet.

As a start, see http://www.buffalotech.com/products/storage.php. You can get up to 2,000Gb of space.

What's the difference between internal and external hard drives?

Written by admin on April 15, 2009 – 10:04 am -

I need memory cause my computer has a 30 GB hard drive, and my ipod is 30 GB. I was wondering if it is unusual for a person to use an external hard drive for a desktop??? Are external hard drives more proned to crash or break or infected?? Also are internal hard drives difficult to install?? Or are external and internal drives the same the only difference being one is inside the computer and the other outside???

One's inside, and one's outside.

You'd be better off with an external. There's no installation, just plug it in and use it! Lots of people use external hard drives for desktops.

How do I Add Hard Drives to a Dell Dimension Series Computer?

Written by admin on April 15, 2009 – 10:04 am -

I have opened the case on my Dell Desktop Computer. I removed the original Hard Drive (C) and replaced it with another Hard Drive which I am attempting to access. However the system will not boot at startup with any other Hard Drive than the original. I get a message: Plug and Play Configuration Error. There must be some way to add hard drives and access them the way I did from the previous computers.

Is your hard driev IDE or SATA? if its ide, Make sure you have the jumpers set right to master
